The existing system in the Press House at Franklaw consisted of hydraulic ram pumps with problems of oil leakage and a high maintenance requirement.


The air driven diaphragm (ADD) pump package was the ideal solution.  This unique package, designed by NW Pump and Valve, comprises three components: the ADD pump, Plusair compressor, and a control panel.

NW Pump and Valve designed, installed and commissioned the complete upgraded system at Franklaw.

The Operations Manager at the site commented on the advantages gained by the ADD package, including:

- Time-saving: the ADD takes 10 minutes to cahrge press, compared with one hour for the previous ram pumps

- The ADD is much easier to maintain (fewer moving parts)

- Improved environmental performance: no risk of hydraulic oil spills

- Safer: no exposed moving parts

- Automatic sludge press filling control and monitoring
